Attention VBS Coordinators - We Need Your Help!

Opportunities for Children!

April 2019

Dear Ministry Supporters,

Is your church looking for ways to get your children involved in supporting God's work around the world?  As Vacation Bible School is fast approaching, we know that you may be looking for a project where children can help other children.

Our Cuban partners are involved in a project called, "Somos Como La Luna" which is "We are like the moon".  Like the moon reflecting the light of the sun, this project wants to reflect the light of God into the special needs community.

Somos Como La Luna sees a need and an opportunity to serve the children with special needs in their community because they are not supported through the local schools and have little to no resources.

Somos Como La Luna has requested help in raising school supplies for these children.  Your VBS group can do this in 2 ways:
  1. They can collect money which will be utilized to purchase supplies from the USA and then delivered by Men For Missions evangelism teams.

  2. They can collect supplies which will be delivered by the Men For Missions teams.  We have a list of things they are requesting.

We welcome any opportunity to join you in this project by visiting your VBS and explaining this project.

Please pray how God may use your VBS program to help special needs children in Cuba and let us know how we can help.

Blessings,
Doug & Cindy

March 2019

Romans 8:28 - And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose. NIV

One of the goals for Men For Missions Latin America has been to train and prepare Colombians to cross their own borders in total obedience to Jesus Christ and targeting areas where the US passport isn't welcomed.  Many Colombians desire to replicate the Satura/Men For Missions evangelism model and have responded to God's call to serve in Venezuela this year.  Unfortunately, as the crisis has escalated, the Colombians now feel that it's too dangerous to send their own short-term Men For Missions team at this time.

Time and time again throughout the Bible, God has scattered his people in the midst of suffering and persecution.  It's no different today, the news continues to report of the devastating crisis in Venezuela and we see millions of Venezuelans fleeing their country in survival mode. Many of the people that are fleeing to neighboring countries are our brothers and sisters in Christ.  In February, we had the honor and privilege of serving alongside some of these folks during our evangelism team trip to Medellín, Colombia.

Pictured here are several Venezuelans that are now calling Medellín their temporary home. In the midst of their despair and grief, they are joyfully serving the Lord where He has placed them.  During our time together, several served as translators and others served as church locals.  Both of which are vital parts to our short-term evangelism teams. These valiant Venezuelans with their grateful hearts were such a beautiful testimony to us.  It was obvious that God is protecting, providing and preparing them for a time when they are able to return to their country.

Our team of nine short-termers from the Midwest had no idea how God was going to orchestrate that week of evangelism.  We knew the typical evangelism schedule, which included a different local church and different community each day. However, we were amazed at how God brought an influx of Venezuelans into our lives.  There were those that served with us, those that were standing behind the doors that we knocked on and others were sitting next to us on the plane. If God has touched your heart to minister to Venezuelans, we want to encourage you to be a part of the next evangelism teams to Colombia.  It is highly likely that while serving in Colombia, you will also be serving some of those displaced from Venezuela.

As Men for Missions begins to strategize and prepare for global expansion into 30 countries in 5 years (G5:30), we understand that we may not need to go directly into 30 different countries to prepare and train laymen to DO, GO and GIVE.  We just need to open our eyes and see those that are right in front of us and be aware that God may be bringing them to us.  Please pray for the global expansion of Men For Missions and ask God how you can be a part of it.

Blessings,
Doug & Cindy
Last summer, we met Betsy when she attended our short-term mission workshop at the OMS Illuminate conference.  Betsy was attending the conference to help prepare herself to serve on a missions committee.  After the conference, she felt led to organize the first ever mission conference in her church.  While organizing the conference, she was also obedient as the Lord led her to serve on a short-term team to Haiti and take a couple of church members with her.  This gal is on fire for the Lord and she's contagious.

Thank you for praying for our time in Oakville, Indiana.  We were so encouraged to share in their first missions conference. We shared about our ministry on Friday night, Doug shared with the men's group on Saturday morning while Cindy shared at the women's luncheon, and we both provided a lesson for the Sunday school class.  Our fellowship was sweet and we left with our hearts overflowing.

Betsy and Annie have responded to God's call and will join the evangelism team to Montería, Colombia in May.  Please pray that God will continue to grow the seeds that were planted in this conference.
There are so many ways to support our ministry.  Many pray and give financially.  This group pictured above decided to join with us on an evangelism team to Colombia.  Three of these folks are from the Gibson City Bible Church, our home sending church.  Another one is the president of the Men For Mission cabinet. Not pictured is a precious family that serve on MFM staff.   This team was such an encouragement to us and the work in Colombia. Each one of them have invested in our ministry in so many different ways.
We thank God for every supporter that the Lord has given to us.
1.  Praise the Lord for our recent celebration of 32 years of marriage.

2.  Pray for Doug and 3 other men traveling to Cuba on April 16 - 19 to encourage their local MFM team.

3.  Pray for religious visas to be granted for our June team to Cuba.  Paperwork has been submitted to our Cuban partners.

4.  Pray as we continue to strategize on the global expansion of Men for Missions.

5.  Praise for a great visit and some time of rest in Florida with Doug's mom.
Vision:  Our goal is the Lordship of Jesus Christ in each person's life, at home and around the world.

Tankersley Update

February 2019

Dear Prayer Warriors,

Do you realize that we've been sending many of you prayer requests for approximately 14 years?

Pictured above are Verne and Janet Tankersley. Yes, they are family - Verne and Doug's dad were cousins.  They have been some of our Founding Prayer Warriors since we began this mission journey in 2005.  It's difficult to see but they have been sporting prayer bracelets since we handed them out at some point during our Ecuador term.  We recently had the privilege of spending time with them in September 2018 in their new home where they shared the story of being king and queen of the nursing home. A title well deserved for 70 years of marriage.

As we prepared for missionary service, we remember very distinctly when Dr. Wesley Dewel spoke to our group of new missionary candidates.  He started by asking us a question, "Is your prayer life adequate enough to be a missionary?" Our eager hearts sank into our stomachs and we knew we were in way over our heads!  Dr. Dewel went on to challenge us to form a prayer team. Verne and Janet were two of the first ones on that team.

We are so thankful for each one of you that answered the call to join this ministry in prayer.  Each of you have filled a great gap between our prayer life and ministry life.  Each email is a testimony of how God has responded to your prayers and a plea to help us in the things that God is calling us to do.

We realize that we don't express our gratefulness enough to each of you personally, but we are so thankful for your support through prayer.  Thank you for taking the time each month to read our ramblings/requests and praying as the Holy Spirit leads.  If it weren't for your prayers, we can honestly say that we're not sure where we'd be.

Verne relocated to his heavenly home on January 15th, just 1 day shy of his 92nd birthday.  We share in the mourning of all who knew and loved him and feel such a great loss in our ministry.  Please pray for Janet and her family.

Blessings,
Doug & Cindy
Thank you for praying for Men For Missions Regional Director meetings.  It's always encouraging to spend time with these folks.  We represent South Carolina, Florida, Kentucky, Iowa, Ohio, Indiana, Oregon, Minnesota & of course, Illinois/Latin America.  If you know of a group that would like to know more about Men For Missions and the opportunities to serve the Lord on short term mission teams, please let us know.
This group is at your service!
We've had to cancel two weekends of pre-trip training due to road conditions.  Our time is running out.  Please pray that we will be able to lead this training on February 3.  We've also been asked to share the morning message at the
Gibson City Bible Church.
It's always good to be in our home sending church.
I'm just a nobody
Trying to tell everybody
All about somebody
Who saved my soul!

"Nobody" by Casting Crowns was the theme song for this year's Encounter week at Peoria Christian School.  It was an awesome week as Cindy led 3 chapel services teaching the students about being missionaries and how God prepares each of us and gives us special gifts for service.
They loved hearing the story of salvation
through the Evangecube.
Pray for the seeds that God planted and the hearts that He touched.
We will be leading an evangelism team to Medellin from February 16 - 23. Please pray for our team of 9 departing from 3 different states.  We will be evangelizing on February 18 - 21.  Pray for our translators and the local churches as we partner together to bring the hope of salvation.  This will be the 33rd evangelism team to Colombia since 2012.  If you would like to join a team, please let us know.
1. Pray as we share about the work in Latin America at the Gibson City Bible Church this Sunday, February 3rd.

2.  Praising the Lord for the prayer team that He has given us.

3.  Praising the Lord for the MFM regional staff that desire to see laymen Do, Go and Give in total obedience to Jesus Christ.

4.  Pray for our evangelism team to Colombia February 16 - 23.

5.  Pray as we prepare to share at a missions conference at First Brethren Church of Oakville, Indiana on March 1 - 3.
