Tankersley Praise & Prayer Update View this email in your browser May 2016   GETTING THERE IS PART OF THE BATTLE Dear Prayer Warriors, We usually focus our update on the results and stories of our teams after they have left so that you can rejoice in all that God has done.  However, this month, we want to share a little bit about what happens before we arrive at the door with the Gospel of Jesus, so you will know how important prayer is to our ministry. The two weeks leading up to evangelism teams are usually filled with many "surprises".  These surprises bring distraction, discouragement and sometimes downright despair. Some of the surprises that our team encountered this time were:      *Son of team member was hit by a car      *Daughter of team member hospitalized after a brutal attack      *Team member to ER for heart attack symptoms 2 days before team arrives      *Another team member hospitalized from complications after surgery      *Team member in for testing for a life-threatening disease      *Various illnesses      *Van breaks down      *Inclement weather      *Other situations (not disclosed) The Gospel of Jesus transforms lives, changes families & communities and impacts eternity.  We have learned to expect some kind of surprises, but we've also learned to combat them with prayer which is why we send you updates and requests.  God is always faithful to provide.  The battles are tough but the victories are many.  We are so thankful for those 200+ doors that were opened and heard the Gospel, because we know that God's word will not return void and that His Word brings HOPE where there in no hope.    One of the things that Cindy tries to do before a team arrives, is to write thank you notes to supporters so that the team members from the USA can take them back and mail them for us since we don't have a cost effective, functioning mail system here in Colombia.  It's during this time that we focus on those that pray and give so faithfully to our ministries here.  You are a huge part of our combat strategy before the team arrives.  We know that you are praying and we are so thankful for the mighty prayer warriors that we have and those that so generously give to our ministries.  We truly hope you realize what a crucial role you have in what God is doing in Colombia through you.  Your prayers are the reason we can welcome each new team that arrives with confidence in the Lord.  DEVASTATION IN ECUADOR On the evening of April 16, a violent 7.8 magnitude earthquake suddenly struck the northwest coast of Ecuador. While the Earth trembled for less than a minute, the devastation wrought will last a lifetime for many Ecuadorians. To date, the death toll has climbed to nearly 700 people, leaving loved ones devastated. Many more thousands (16,600) were left injured, homeless, and without food, water, and shelter. Please click on the picture for more information and ways to pray and give.  HOW DID WE GET HERE? Last month, we found ourselves in a week long church planting training session with pastors and leaders from Colombia and Argentina.  We were asked to share morning devotions as well as meet with each attendee and pray for them. Our prayer time was a real encouragement for us.  Remember to pray for your pastors and the leaders of your church.  They will be greatly blessed!  (There were no translators!!!) 10 Years with OMS - GOD IS FAITHFUL!   Our evangelism team and field director conspired to surprise us with our 10 year certificate with One Mission Society.  This entire life changing journey has been faith-based living and God has been abundantly faithful.  We trust and obey and He does the rest.  The victories are HIS, the results are HIS, the honor is HIS, and the glory is HIS.  We are eternally grateful for every opportunity we have to serve HIM. We will also celebrate 1 year in Colombia on May 20. 1. Praising God for our moms and their faithful love and support to us.       HAPPY MOTHER'S DAY 2. Praising God for our son, David and celebrating the 24 years of blessings he has been to us.  3. Heaven gained another one of our mighty prayer warriors.  We rejoice that she is with Jesus, but mourn with those that love her so much.  4. Praising God for much needed rain.  Thank you for praying! 5.
