July 2015
"Everything is permissible" - but not everything is beneficial.  "Everything is permissible" - but not everything is constructive.  Nobody should seek his own good, but the good of others.
1 Corinthians 10:23,24

Dear Prayer Warriors,
Living as foreigners, we no longer have the same rights as we did living in the USA.  At times, that can be a very scary thing, however, many times it's those freedoms that give us a false sense of security.  In Colombia, we are reminded on a daily basis that our freedom and the security that freedom brings is in GOD alone.  It's in God alone that we trust and move forth in obedience to what He is calling us to do.  Thank you so much for your obedience in praying for us and providing for us through your giving.
There's a first time for EVERYTHING!
We have lived in 3 different states, 4 different countries, and about 15+ different houses in our 28 years of marriage, but not one of them have been a high-rise apartment building.  Actually, we have never even lived in an apartment building before.  However, our priorities and preferences quickly changed as our perspective changed.  The desire for a "typical" house was overruled by the need for security, hot water, an oven, and walking distance to the office and church.  So here we are on the 3rd floor, in a nearly 600 square feet apartment, with security guard and parking spot even though we don't have plans for a car.  Please pray that we will quickly develop friendships with our neighbors and that we would have many opportunities to show hospitality.
English Classes
Thank you for praying for us as we started teaching English classes for our IGLEICO team last week.  They want to learn English phrases to be able to better greet and welcome the teams that come to Medellin for short term missions. Please remember to pray for all of us as we work together in all that God is calling us to do.  Bridging the great divide of languages is very challenging for all. So thankful for the mercy that God pours out through our team members.
MFM Evangelism Team
Our first official evangelism team is scheduled to arrive on July 18.  Please pray for the team of 14, our translators, and the Holy Spirit to work in each person that hears the Good News of Jesus Christ. We will be attending a preliminary meeting with the translators this Friday night.
They Wanted Pancakes!
One of the highlights of our week is Wednesday mornings when we meet with our IGLEICO team for a time of devotion, worship and prayer.  We conclude our time together with breakfast and fellowship. We volunteered to take a turn and they requested pancakes. Some had never eaten them, and weren't quite sure what to do with them.

Praises:
We are settled and the move went very well.

We have been healthy and safe.

Prayers:
Pray for our teaching of English classes on Tues & Wed.

June, 2015
Dear Prayer Warriors,

It's been 1 month since our arrival into this vast city of MedellĂn, Colombia. It's been quite an exhausting month just getting acclimated to a new country.  The language processing, people EVERYWHERE, strange sounds, and strange smells and that is just in the grocery store.  Unlike our time in Ecuador and Costa Rica, we do not have a network of English speakers that can lead and guide from their experiences as foreigners.  We are learning how to utilize the city's Metro rail and integrated bus system, and discovering new places along the way. We are in uncharted waters and while there is joy is finding what's around every corner, it takes lots of energy. We are very thankful for our national team of Colombians and their patience and love for us during this time of transition. So many have opened their homes, hearts and families to us!
One of our first official activities was to attend the monthly meeting of Medellin pastors for a time of worship, devotional, prayer and introduction.  One of our ministries will involve pastoral care.  Please pray as we begin to build relationships with these pastors and their wives.  (Many pastors are not pictured)
It's important to learn to improvise when living overseas.  In our first studio apartment, the most comfortable seat in the room was the toilet, so we bought these nice green EASYboys which have now doubled as dining room chairs around our dining (coffee) table for our first dinner guests (in our second studio apt.)  Colombians are very gracious!!!!
We have begun attending weekly prayer meetings with our IGLEICO team.  We meet each Wednesday at 8:30 for a time of devotion, praise and prayer.
THANK YOU!!
Your prayerful and financial support are needed each day for us to do what God has called us to do!  Thank you for your sacrificial giving!!

Praise:
1.  Jonathan celebrated his 20th birthday on June 12th.
2.  Provisions on top of provisions!!!
3.  We successfully registered our VISA's and have received our official CĂ©dula de ExtranjerĂas (Colombian Resident ID's).

Prayer:
1.  Moving on July 1 to a larger apartment with a dining table and an oven.
2.  Our ability to accurately understand and articulate in Spanish.
3.  OMS/MFM meetings taking place this month in Greenwood, IN.
4.  Wisdom and discernment as we begin discussions on developing a local mission-sending program and define our roles in assisting with Pastoral care.
5.  July 18-25 we will have a MFM Evangelism Team of 14 coming.

Tankersley Update ~ Home Sweet Home

May/June 2015

Isaiah 55:11
so is my word that goes out from my mouth:
It will not return to me empty,
but will accomplish what I desire
and achieve the purpose for which I sent it.

What 3 weeks in the USA?

It's still a blur!  All we really wanted to do was to spend quality time with those that we love and miss so much!  It is so hard not to feel a bit cheated by travel time to 3 states, doctor's appointments, dentist appointment, tax appointment, consulate appointment, not to mention the insurmountable time spent on repacking and the overwhelming feelings of reentry and transition.  There were so many loved ones that we didn't get to see and the time that we spent visiting, just wasn't enough!  We have to remind ourselves that there is NEVER enough time for those that we love!

Home Sweet Home

Housing has proven to be a bit of a challenge here in MedellĂn but we are working out the quirks of no stove, cold showers and where to hang clothes to dry in a 400 square foot apartment.  We should have a long term apartment by July 1.  It's always been our prayer that our home will be a place of sweet fellowship and a place where the Lord reigns.

Medical Team

One of the last things on our radar when we landed in Colombia, was to participate with the first OMS Dynamic Women medical evangelistic team that arrived on our second day.  However, God had other plans ready for us.  They were in need of additional translators, so we jumped at the opportunity.  So thankful that we did!!  Doug helped to register over 578 patients in 4 days, translating their illnesses to English so the doctors would know how to best serve them.  Cindy worked with the pharmacist translating her English instructions and dosages to Spanish for these patients.  Once they were treated, each one would receive counsel, the Gospel message and prayer.  There were more than 200 people who made first time decisions for Christ and many others who requested a home visit from the pastor of the church we worked in.  The team was a blessing to us, and we loved working with our Colombian team members and getting to know them better!!

Coming This Week

On Wednesday, we need to register our visas with the Colombian government and jump through the necessary hoops to obtain our Colombian ID's.

Thank you so much for your part in this ministry.  We are grateful for every gift, every prayer and every form of support!!

Blessings,
Doug & Cindy
