Tankersley Praise & Prayer Update View this email in your browser September 2015 Dear Prayer Warriors, Baptism ~ Do you remember when you were baptized?  The day you publicly professed that Jesus Christ was your Lord and Savior.  What a joy it is for us to be invited to attend these special celebrations of new-birth in Christ.  Earlier in August, we were blessed to travel to an area north of El Peñol where the Igleico church of Itagüi baptized four new believers.  As always, it was wonderful to hear their testimonies in how Christ had transformed their lives, and they were excited about publicly professing their belief and personal relationship with Jesus. Please pray for these new believers and that they will continue to draw closer to Jesus each day and boldly share with others about their new eternal Hope they have in Jesus Christ   August - Missions Month in Colombia Many of the 700+ IGLEICO churches united themselves during the "Month of Missions".  It was our first opportunity in Colombia to publicly share about our call to serve God and the reasons for which we are here.  Please pray for those that God is calling, and pray for IGLEICO as they seek to prepare and send them.   Our English classes continue on Tuesdays and Wednesdays.  We've incorporated songs, games and some "friendly" competition.  It has been and continues to be one of the ways that God is building our relationships with each other.  This team has been such a blessing to us.  The Williams Family is coming! We are so excited to be growing our OMS family here in Medellín, and we must confess that we are also looking forward to having some English speakers here too.  For the first month they will be temporarily packed into a 2 bedroom apartment as they explore the area and look for additional housing options.  Please pray for this precious family and that God would bind us all together with His abundant love. And please pray for them as they adjust to a new city, new country, and new ministry. IGLEICO Baby Shower Jhon Edwar, IGLEICO treasurer and his wife, Melissa, are expecting their first child in October.  Events like this is such a good way to learn culture and share in lots of laughter.  Jhon is also our pastor where we are attending church.  Please pray for them as they get ready to welcome their new little boy. September 5-10 Cindy flies to Bogotá this Saturday to help with an OMS-Dynamic Women's Conference in Boyacá for pastor's wives and women leaders in the church.  September 10-15 Kent Eller - National Director of Men for Missions arrives with 3 other team members.  We will be visiting with Igleico leadership to discuss how MFM might be able to better support their ministries and future plans. We will also be visiting some areas of ministry, as well as some 2nd and 3rd generation house churches that have resulted from previous MFM Evangelism teams. September 15 ~ The Williams family arrives. And how can they hear without someone preaching to them? And how can they preach unless they are sent? As it is written, "How beautiful are the feet of those who bring good news!"  Romans 10:14-15 August 2015 One of Medellin's largest events of the year is a 2-week Flower Festival in August.  As I scoured image after image of this flower festival on the Internet, I quickly came to realize that these incredibly large, bountiful floral masterpieces are actually carried by men and women known as Silleteros.  (Silleteros is a Spanish word that translates to a person carrying a seat.)  Dating back 200 years ago, Silleteros would carry people on a seat on their back across mountains where animals couldn't tread.  If that weren't challenging enough, the sillerteros walked barefoot a minimum of 3 hours each way to deliver their passengers. The focus of my heart quickly moved from the beauty of the load to the one carrying the beauty and I became overwhelmed by their task and dedication.  I wondered how much of a burden it was for these men and women to carry these incredible loads.  The more I read, the more I learned that these men and women never consider it a burden but consider it a privilege and honor to carry these heavy, beautiful loads.  It's a tradition and livelihood past down from generation to generation.  It was in their joy and honor of serving that made their load so much more beautiful.   I doubt that we will get to see the flower festival or the silleteros that carry the flowers but we do have an incredible privilege of working with some very special "silleteros" on a daily basis.  Pictured below are the many "silleteros" that we served alongside last month.  Each one carried their own special testimony of how God has transformed their lives.  Each one carried the Good News of Jesus Christ from door to door to door in six areas of Antioquia.  Please pray for those that heard God's message and pray for each church as they seek to follow up and disciple those that made a decision to receive Jesus as their savior.   Many carry the Good News of Jesus through the indescribable power of prayer.  Others carry that message as they fund God's work with their finances while others are the actual "beautiful" feet that bring the Good News of Jesus Christ.  Carrying the message can be challenging, it may take some sacrifice, and it's not an easy task but it's a privilege and an honor to be entrusted with something so eternal. Thank you for supporting our ministries here.  We are very thankful for being a small part of what God has done and continues to do in Colombia. Tankersley Praise & Prayer Update View this email in your browser July 2015 "Everything is permissible" - but not everything is beneficial.  "Everything is permissible" - but not everything is constructive.  Nobody should seek his own good, but the good of others.  1 Corinthians 10:23,24 Dear Prayer Warriors, Living as foreigners, we no longer have the same rights as we did living in the USA.  At times, that can be a very scary thing, however, many times it's those freedoms that give us a false sense of security.  In Colombia, we are reminded on a daily basis that our freedom and the security that freedom brings is in GOD alone.  It's in God alone that we trust and move forth in obedience to what He is calling us to do.  Thank you so much for your obedience in praying for us and providing for us through your giving. There's a first time for EVERYTHING!  We have lived in 3 different states, 4 different countries, and about 15+ different houses in our 28 years of marriage, but not one of them have been a high-rise apartment building.  Actually, we have never even lived in an apartment building before.  However, our priorities and preferences quickly changed as our perspective changed.  The desire for a "typical" house was overruled by the need for security, hot water, an oven, and walking distance to the office and church.  So here we are on the 3rd floor, in a nearly 600 square feet apartment, with security guard and parking spot even though we don't have plans for a car.  Please pray that we will quickly develop friendships with our neighbors and that we would have many opportunities to show hospitality.  English Classes Thank you for praying for us as we started teaching English classes for our IGLEICO team last week.  They want to learn English phrases to be able to better greet and welcome the teams that come to Medellin for short term missions. Please remember to pray for all of us as we work together in all that God is calling us to do.  Bridging the great divide of languages is very challenging for all. So thankful for the mercy that God pours out through our team members.  MFM Evangelism Team Our first official evangelism team is scheduled to arrive on July 18.  Please pray for the team of 14, our translators, and the Holy Spirit to work in each person that hears the Good News of Jesus Christ. We will be attending a preliminary meeting with the translators this Friday night. They Wanted Pancakes! One of the highlights of our week is Wednesday mornings when we meet with our IGLEICO team for a time of devotion, worship and prayer.  We conclude our time together with breakfast and fellowship. We volunteered to take a turn and they requested pancakes. Some had never eaten them, and weren't quite sure what to do with them.    Praises: We are settled and the move went very well.  We have been healthy and safe. Prayers: Pray for our teaching of English classes on Tues & Wed.
